The School of Marxism Held 1+1 Workshop Seminar

In order to better cultivate faculty members’ enthusiasm and their abilities to participate in ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses, and further promote the synergistic development of ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses as well as Ideological and Political courses, the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University held a 1+1 Workshop Seminar on November 4, relying on the research group of ‘‘Action-Oriented’ Ideological-political Education in Non-ideological-political Courses as Well as Ideological and Political Courses in the Same Direction’. More than 20 teachers from the School of Marxism, the School of Physical Science and Technology, the School of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Information Science and Technology, the School of Sports, and the School of Foreign Languages participated in this seminar, which was presided over by Professor Xie Yu, Associate Dean of the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University.

Before the formal start of this seminar, Professor Xie Yu organized teachers to introduce themselves in turn and warmly welcomed their support and participation.

The first phase of the seminar was a theme sharing by teacher representatives.

First of all, it is shared by Qin Shiyan, Associate Professor of School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University. Associate Professor Qin Shiyan said that there were still many problems in the development of current ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses. Teachers and students’ different understandings of ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses as well as the corresponding teaching and research conditions all affected the effect of ideological and political education in curriculum. There were still realistic difficulties in the coordination of ideological and political education in curriculum with ideological and political courses. Faculty should carry out in-depth exchanges and pool common wisdom to effectively solve teaching problems and thus make notable progress of ideological and political education in curriculum.

Then, Professor Sun Yanyun from the School of Physical Science and Technology of Southwest Jiaotong University shared a lecture. Professor Sun Yanyun stated that the effective development of ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses is related to the interaction between teachers and students. On one hand, faculty should teach in an easy-to-understand, interesting, and innovative way, guiding students into the thinking field with vivid cases, identifying problems from life and then solving them in academia. On the other hand, teaching elements should be effectively combined with ideological and political content, so that students can pay attention to rich connotation of ideological and political education in curriculum when they elaborating their thoughts.

The second phase of the seminar is teachers’ free discussion.

In view of the various issues and experience mentioned in the theme sharing, attendees held a lively discussion and agreed that it was necessary to creatively guide students to combine the content of professional courses with ideological and political elements in teaching. In ideological and political courses, it is essential to establish a historical perspective, find the teaching incision of effective construction of ideological and political education in curriculum from the view of macro-history, and then better integrate ideological and political courses with professional knowledge, finally forming a reasonable and effective teaching system for the synergistic development of ideological and political education in curriculum as well as ideological and political courses.

The coordinated development of ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses as well as ideological and political courses is the key content of building a ‘great ideological and political’ education pattern. The implementation of this seminar clarified the realistic dilemma and key problems existing in the collaborative development of ideological and political education in curriculum and ideological and political courses, and made relevant responses in the form of seminar and exchanges. In order to better form a good coordination pattern between ideological-political education in non-ideological-political courses and ideological and political courses, an effective teaching system are supposed to be constructed scientifically and reasonably, starting from the breadth, depth, and temperature, so as to finally accomplish the fundamental goal of ideological and political education in this process.
